Go Team Love Lexi 2011!
Saturday,
October 15th is the Komen Race for the Cure here in Miami and team Love
Lexi is getting ready to roll!!
This is my 5th year raising money to fight breast cancer - asking for
donations instead of birthday and holiday presents. I know I always say
that getting donations instead of birthday and holiday presents is the
best present - although I always appreciate the few that slip through - I
want you know that it really is true. Saving a life or getting a
present? Hmmmmmmmmm the choice is easy! So far we've raised an estimated
$35,000!!!!!!! Let's go for $40,000!!!!!
I have invited several Breast Cancer Survivors to help me design this year's poster for us to sell at the Love Lexi
Tent at the walk on October 15th. Our theme is based on the idea that every survivor needs support...and I am my Auntie Mary's "wing girl"....so that is what we are going to be painting! Everyone still loves the "Peace For The Cure" painting and I was fortunate
enough to sell a few thousand dollars worth.
Artists Ferdie and Luisita Pacheco were like angels helping me paint it. So working with wings seems right in step with what it takes to beat this disease!
Please click here
and donate in whatever way you can - money is TAX DEDUCTIBLE and I ask
that you let as many people as possible know about our Love Lexi
efforts. You don't have to come to the walk to be a team member or
donate. There's even a "Sleep in for the Cure" option! Whoo hoo!
If you can join us you will have so much fun at the tent and we always
can use helping hands!!! Everyone is welcome!!! And I'm so excited that the Lehrman Day School team have joined forces with Team Love Lexi this year!!! Go Lehrman Lions!!!
If you ever questioned if "Art Can Heal" then I have another story for
you. Last year when my family and I were delivering food
baskets to senior citizens who can't leave home for the Jewish Holidays,
we met a women who told us about how special the hand made childrens
gift cards that come with the baskets have
been for her over the years...and how they made a difference in her
life. She said she even saved a few of her favorites - she showed them
to us and to our surprise....ONE OF THEM WAS MINE FROM WHEN I WAS 7 YRS.
OLD!!!!!
I have learned a lot since my trip to Dunkin’ Donuts in December 2006 when I started this fund raising thing..
I have learned you never know where inspiration will come from and how
a simple pink donut can make you think about doing something great. And
most important, I have learned that even a little 9...10...11...12 and now 13 year
old can save a life.
Five birthdays ago, if you had asked me what it would be like to have
a birthday and no presents, I would have said that I couldn’t even
imagine it. I like opening a gift-wrapped box like any girl -
just ask my friends! And yet for five years I have received the most
extraordinary presents - donations, letters, support and meeting new
people who inspire me. After all, if these women have the courage to
face down cancer, the least I can do is my part to help.
I really believe that art can heal a soul and bring meaning to a
life. I know it has made my life better and together I know we are
saving lives every day!
Why I Continue to Do What I Do
